Each month we'll review new dishes and share them with you.
Special occasions call for memorable settings.
As you head north from the LA urban center, Cambria is a tiny town that marks the beginning of the coastal leg of your drive. We recommend Soto's True Earth Market for their plant based pesto grilled cheese.
Ragged Point has epic vistas and a world famous sculpture welcoming you to Big Sur so make sure you get food, photos and stretch your legs a little. Gorda, 23 miles north, is the last town for 56 miles if you're coming from the south.
Big Sur is 56 miles north of Gorda. There are gas stations and a Tesla charging station so relax, enjoy and check out the myriad of magical places to dine and get drinks. See the link below for more on each restaurant and cafe. Welcome!!
On the north side of Big Sur just south of Monterey, Carmel has some of the best dog friendly beaches and art galleries on earth. Vegan option(s) and a quaint village atmosphere will make you smile.
California's historical Cannery Row is home to one of our top recommendations, El Cantaro, the ONLY 100% vegan restaurant in the area. Monterey has a lot of vegan attractions, from farmers markets to overwintering Monarch butterflies.
See restaurants & cafes up close, with photos, reviews, menu items and editor's favorite picks. We'll also add to the blog with more detailed posts as we dine at more locations. For now, click Below...
Big Sur stretches along the California coast between San Simeon and Carmel. It remains one of the world's most beautiful landscapes, vast and wild, with only a handful of businesses. Join us as we explore Big Sur Village and the surrounding area, highlighting all things vegan.
Big Sur and Monterey Bay were once part of a coastline inhabited by thousands of otters, elephant seals, whales, sardines, abalone and more. After overfishing and exploitation brought many species to the brink of extinction, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary was created in 1992. This effort made recovery and repopulation possible. By visiting responsibly in support of eco-tourism, vegans play an integral role in shaping a more sustainable planet.
Winter storms brought welcome rain and as expected, Highway 1 is closed in multiple locations due to mudslides. We'll update the site once access to Big Sur is possible from the south again.
It is still possible to access Big Sur from Monterey, and Ragged Point is open.
We hope roads are cleared for travel soon, in the meantime, please enjoy our site, see below if you have any questions.
